STC Accreditation on 16 CFR 1611 Vinyl Plastic Film Testing

2016-03-31

Vinyl plastic film is a prevalent material used in wearing apparel or fabric including raincoats and waterproof outdoor clothing. 16 CFR 1611 sets the minimum standard for flammability of such plastic product aiming to enter the US market. Past CPSC recall on a style of Halloween costume acted as a wake-up call addressing the importance of this testing. The term film means any non-rigid, unsupported plastic, rubber or other synthetic or natural film or sheeting, subject to the act, or any combination thereof, including transparent, translucent, and opaque material, whether plain, embossed, molded, or otherwise surface treated, which is in a form or condition ready for use in wearing apparel, and shall include film or sheeting exceeding 10 mils in thickness. Equipped with advanced facilities and a team of professional staff, STC is accredited by HOKLAS and registered in CPSC as accepted third party lab to perform 16 CFR 1611 flammability testing. All manufacturers, importers and private labelers shall manufacture products in compliance with 16 CFR 1611 by an accredited third party conformity assessment body.
