India Issues Quality Control Order for Compulsory Certification of Toys

On 2020-02-25, the Indian Central Government published, under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, the “Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020”.

 

Compulsory use of Standard Mark:

Except for export, all toys manufactured in or imported into India shall bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (‘BIS’), as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations 2018.

Conformity to standard:

Standards for compliance for toys and BIS Certification are described as follows in the Gazette. Though year of each standard is given, the latest version of Indian Standards including the amendments issued thereof, as notified by the BIS from time to time, shall apply from date of such notification. For instance, BIS may require compliance of the latest version of IS 9873 (Part 1): 2019 instead of the 2018 version.

 

Effective Date:
The Order has come into force with effect from 2021-09-01
